FUN WITH BIRTH CONTROL

So I live in New Zealand now and as an Australian citizen this makes me a NZ resident which doesn’t really entitle you to much except you can work and live here indefinitely without needing a visa, no benefits, but hey, that’s fine and understandable, I haven’t paid taxes aside from whatever I pay when I buy food or petrol.

So I have fuck all money and I’m trying to avoid getting pregnant without having to opt for celibacy. Condoms cost about $15 a pack of 12. Pretty pricey. So I look into going to family planning, costs like $23 for an appointment and $15 or more for a script for the pill and $3 for a pack of 12 condoms that you still can’t get without booking an appointment.

But lo and behold! Free maternity care for all NZ residents!? So kind!

So I can’t afford to go to family planning.

I find out there’s a free sexual health clinic. I go there and get 12 free condoms on the spot and a $3 prescription for 144 condoms.

So they’re afraid of you spreading horrible nasty cooty germs, free condoms for you! You don’t even need to book an appointment!

And if you wanna have a baby, free healthcare for you!

But if you are one of those nasty bitches who wants to have sex and not get pregnant YOU GOTTA PAY!

Obviously, I blame the patriarchy.

Separatist feminist rhetoric suggested that all men share equally in male privilege, that all men reap positive benefits from sexism. Yet the poor or working-class man who has been socialized via sexist ideology to believe that there are privileges and powers he should possess solely because he is male often finds that few, if any, of these benefits are automatically bestowed on him in life. More than any other male group in the United States, he is constantly concerned about the contradiction between the notions of masculinity he was taught and his inability to live up to that notion. He is usually ‘hurt,’ emotionally scarred because he does not have the privilege or power society has taught him ‘real men’ should possess. Alienated, frustrated, pissed off, he may attack, abuse, and oppress and individual woman or women, but he is not reaping positive benefits from his support and perpetuation of sexist ideology.

One common justification I hear from people who like to hook up is that, “It’s okay if they use me, because I’m using them too.” That is a terrible way to look at it. Just because you’re only spending one night with someone doesn’t mean you should treat him or her like an object. Besides, the hookup can’t be that enjoyable if each person is simply “using” the other’s body, because sex requires a certain amount of teamwork.

— Miriam Mogilevsky. “Hookup Culture Needs to Change for Safety and Fun” from the Daily Northwestern. (via sexpositive)

Its not like me to post sex pozz stuff but this was something that always irked me in my late teens/early 20’s when friends would talk about hooking up. I felt weird that I was so ‘precious’ and sensitive about my body. That hook ups made me feel like shit about myself. I like hearing this stuff from sex pozzers, I might not agree with all their thangs but this is an important message to preach.

sarahacoustical:

He has made no sincere apology, he has never shown guilt/shame/regret for what he did, he sought no treatment afterwards to address his anger problems or to therapeutically work through what he did and no sensitivity training and reconciliatory retreats in order to understand and empathize for women. NOTHING.
This makes me so mad. So fucking mad. And what’s even worse is that there are people out there who think all he did was make “one mistake” and it shouldn’t be held over his head forever.
You know what?
No.
He made ONE mistake, REPEATEDLY and to varying degrees of strength and force on his girlfriend’s face, arms, legs and body and he has done NOTHING to repent for it.
And he gets to walk free and even has been REWARDED for what he did.
Fuck. Society.
FUCK IT ALL.
And the silence from women, from the media and from fellow men who have any shred of decency for the women in their lives and women in general absolutely disgusts me. Such to a point where I’m so close to thinking, “Am I wrong? Is nobody talking about this because it isn’t a big deal?”
But it IS. And it’s disturbing that it isn’t being made more clear that it is.

This is my friend Tarsh, She’s really cool and has these really far out/crazy/impressive ideas about the world.
She thinks first world feminists are boring old sods that think about their fannies too much (Both British and American usage of that word).
One time we went to this feminist conference called NOWSA together, and they were all a bunch of fucking wankers, so we made our own radical faction and made all these posters and stuck them around BUT THEY TORE THEM ALL DOWN AT THE CRACK OF DAWN. And I think we only managed to recruit like 3 people on our fb group. good times. I think we spent like $20 on printing those posters! And we called ourselves
the revolutionary suffragette army. Badass!
Anyway, here’s her tumblr!
